Singing has been her greatest passion for as long as Lady Skye could remember. As a child she would sings songs of Celine Dion, Mariah Carey & Judy Boucher at the top of her lungs, pretending that her hairbrush was a Mic. She sang publically for the 1st time in Grade 4, a classmate named Maurene & Lady Skye did a duet of Vanessa Williams “best for last”, at that very moment she knew that she wanted to be professional singer.
She relocated from Durban to the Midlands region of Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa with two of her elder brothers when she was aged 3. The town of Estcourt that she lived in was pretty small, so there wasn’t any special music schools that she could be enrolled in to begin her dreams of studing music & arts, the only thing that she had was the basic music classes that they offered at school.
Whilst little girls dreamed of being princesses, all she wanted to be was a singer. She remember's that there would be a bunch of girls that would get together over the school lunch breaks to sing the latest songs that where playing on the radio, she was one of them.
She started to keep a journal with all the lyrics of the songs that she loved & soon she began writing her very own songs and singing them to her friends & anybody who was eager to hear. She finished her matric in 2002 and slowly realized and understood the pressures of being out in this big blue world. Her dad passed on a year later and her dreams became more & more unreachable as she took on more responsibilities.
It was in 2008 that she met a producer named Ahmad Mokoka from Johannesburg. He started to tutor her in music & she knew that no matter how many times she tried to put out her dreams in her head, they still burned bright in her heart.
The year 2009 was a very tragic time her my life, her year began with great sadness as she lost her elder brother. He was full of passion and had a real zest for life. The more she thought about him, the more she refused to let her dreams die within her. Even now she know that he is proud of her.
She continued searching for a production company in the Durban area. That’s when she found Pure Platinum Music. She recorded her 1st demo track with them called “Cyber Love Affair”.
She later met ex Devante Singer, Azaad Gilbert whom features on “Sing it back to me” which is a track from her forthcoming album. He introduced her to producer Mr Paul Stainbank who she been working with since late 2009.
She met so many artists in studio whilst working on her album. So began her bonds of friendship, learning from each other & doing many collaborations.
She did a track with Byron T who is an extremely talented Johannesburg based artist on he’s track “Just a Lil Thing Called Love”.
Another one of these collaborations was with an artist named LX Seth.
The “Lady Skye” saga began when she was asked to choose between a stage name or keeping her real name for a music video for “Let It Go” which has aired a numerous amount of times on National TV.
Another break came when the CEO of Eagle Records asked to feature one of her other songs “so In Love” on a compilation CD for a Soul Of Africa Project “Soul Of Africa – Vol 1”. She was asked to do promotional performances for the compilation CD which helped her in getting exposure as well as getting used to stage performances.
